A minimum of safety boots and high visibility clothing will be worn at all times on site. Hard hats will be used when the windows are being fitted to the first floor off the tower scaffold.
ALL WORK EQUIPMENT MUST BE VISUALLY INSPECTED BEFORE USE AND RECORDS OF INSPECTIONS RECORDED WEEKLY IN THE WORK EQUIPMENT INSPECTION FORMS. DEFECTS MUST BE RECORED AND ACTION TAKEN. ALL ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT WILL BE 110V HAVE CE MARKS AND BE PAT TESTED.
All operatives to use good lifting techniques when handling materials and tools. The scaffold Contractor will provide loading bays for all materials to be loaded on to and then materials can be distributed on to the working areas. Assessments will be undertaken by Gap Roofing to reduce manual handling by design, accounting for best practice with the position of loading bays, good access to working areas (e.g. lifting loading bays)
Weekly tool box talks will be conducted with all site operatives. Gap Roofing will work in cooperation with CTM regarding the content of the tool box
• Weekly inspections Health and Safety Inspections will be undertaken by the Gap Roofing Site Manager
• 2 weekly inspections will be undertaken by the Contracts Manager
• Monthly inspections will be undertaken by the Health and Safety Advisor.
It is essential that precautions are also taken to protect others who may be in the vicinity (including the public) from falling materials and tools.
In all cases loose materials and tools will be stored correctly so not to become a trip hazard (especially in the ground floor hallway where the plastering works are taking place)
• Work area will be taped off and the relevant signage applied. There will also be reflective cones positioned around work area.
The work on this project is residential area and full cooperation is required with the Principal Contractor with all measures to protect the public.
All Gap Roofing employees & Subcontractors will ensure that they will act professional at all times and follow these principles:
Avoid argumentative situations developing, be polite and objective, Speak calmly, slowly, firmly and quietly. Avoid all provocation, this can lead to violence. Make sure the person has suitable space. If there is a threat of violence the first response is to get away from the situation. This is the most professional response. Report any forms of violence immediately. This could prevent some else getting subjected to violence. Personal safety is always more important than property.
The Principal Contractor will ensure that Gap Roofing are not exposed to any violence or threats while on their site. Gap Roofing will report any incidents of this type to the Principal Contractor.
All deliveries will be in line with the Principal Contractors Site Rules and specific times stipulated for the development at the pre-start meeting. Safe access and egress and a full traffic management plan to all areas of site will be provided by the Principal Contractor. All operatives will comply with this plan and its requirement’s on site.
The Principal Contractor will provide at all times a qualified first aid person and first aid equipment and facilities on site. Emergency procedures will be provided by the Principal Contractor which are adequate for the size, location and complexity of the site. This will be covered in the site induction and all operative will be inducted before work commences, this will be reviewed by the Principal Contractor and re inductions will be undertaken to their requirements when required. All incidents and accidents must be reported immediately.
All operatives will receive a site specific induction from the Principal Contractor before work commences. This will be reviewed by the Principal Contractor and re inductions will be undertaken to their requirements. All operatives are qualified and experienced in their work activities. All operatives will hold as a minimum of a CSCS card relevant to their trade. Specific training will be undertaken in line with the trade’s activities to cover the site requirements undertaken on site. Tower scaffold will only be erected, altered or dismantled by a PASMA trained and authorized person on firm level ground with the wheels locked:
• Follow manufacturer’s instructions when erecting system.
• Aluminum alloy towers recommend a maximum height to base
ratio of 3:1 if the towers are to be used outside or in exposed
conditions, or 3:5:1 inside. The height may be increased by use of
outriggers.
• Access to tower scaffolds must be from an internal ladder.
• Scaffolds must have toe boards and double hand rails.
• Check there are no overhead obstructions or power
lines.
• Check the ground is firm and level and the floor is
clear of debris and obstructions.
• Push or pull the structure from the base – never
use a powered vehicle.
• Never move it while there are people or materials
on the upper platforms.
• Never move it in windy conditions.
• It is sheeted.
• They are overloaded.
• Used to hoist materials and equipment.
• Used to fix equipment such as rubbish chutes.
• Personnel climb the outside of the structure.
• Used to support ladders.
• Used as a working platform for operations involving heavy or
awkward equipment.
• Check there are no overhead obstructions or power
lines.
• Check the ground is firm and level and the floor is
clear of debris and obstructions.
• Push or pull the structure from the base – never
use a powered vehicle.
• Never move it while there are people or materials
on the upper platforms.
• Never move it in windy conditions.
Working platforms are to be fully boarded and complete with
guard rails and toe boards. Where a single width platform is used
on a double width aluminum alloy tower, it must have guardrails
and toe-boards to suit. Mobile towers will only have one working

• Towers must NEVER be moved with men or materials upon the
platform and may only be moved by applying a horizontal force at
or near the base.
• Prior to moving a tower, ensure that the route to the new desired
location is free of obstructions. In particular, ensure any holes, pits
or gratings are securely covered and that also no overhead
obstructions such as electric cables or beams are present.
• When towers are to be moved and outriggers with adjustable
feet are fitted, they must first be raised to the minimum height
(12mm) to allow movement. However, the tower must be reduced
in height to not more than 2.5 times minimum base dimension.
• After moving and before use, stabilizers should be lowered and
wheels must be locked.

The Principal Contractor will provide adequate welfare facilities in line with CDM 15. Gap Roofing will comply with the waste management systems provided by the Principal Contractor. Disposal and wastes streams to be complied with by operatives on sites
Arrival on Site
• Upon arriving on site our operatives will park their vehicles in the designated parking areas, then sign the attendance register to
show they are on site and make arrangements with the site manager to commence works. Where required by the site manager they
will also sign out.
Inspect Work Area
• Operatives will inspect the work area that they are to work on and ensure access and egress to the plots is acceptable.
• Operatives are to make sure that the work area is free from any obstructions or hazards.
• Visually inspect scaffolding to ensure that adequate hand rails, toe boards and brick guards are in place.
• Important: the scaffold decking area must not be less than 600mm wide and be as tight to the underside of the fascia as possible.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WILL WE WORK OFF HOP UPS.
• Should any operatives notice that any items of access/egress, scaffolding, fall protection are not in place, unsuitable or unsafe in any way or if any hazards or obstruction are present they MUST cease work and report it to the Site Manager and their Contracts Manager
The following process will be followed if a change to this RAM is required: Any change to this RAM and the agreed working practices will be required in writing to Gap Roofing and if required extra resources will have to be agreed before work commences. Gap Roofing reserve the right to stop working if the agreed practices are not implemented by the Principal Contractor and they assess the working conditions to be unsafe. No additional cost in these circumstances can be invoiced to Gap Roofing.
